Next week a group of Knights of Columbus and other friends will bring sandwiches and coffee down under the bridge on N. Broadway in Knoxville. We plan to do this monthly as we continue to learn of other ways to serve those persons who are experiencing homelessness. There are so many great agencies and resources here in Knoxville and I’ve met with some of them over the past couple of weeks to learn more about opportunities for volunteering.
Here’s a great idea I’d like to incorporate into our sandwich ministry…hygiene kits! Check out this video and start collecting soaps and other personal hygiene items.
awesome!
Thanks, Karissa. In a few short hours I’ve heard from two of our deacons. One wanted a list of items for the kits and the other told me that an old high school friend was dropping off a number of items tomorrow. I have a group going downtown next Saturday with sandwiches and coffee…I have a feeling we’ll be bringing some hygiene kits with us too!
This is so awesome! Thanks for posting the video to help get the message out there.
Best of luck!
Thanks Joe. I just learned that the Girl Scouts have been doing this for some time now. Apparently it’s difficult to bring back liquids from a business trip due to TSA restrictions, which has impacted their efforts. Just a data point. I also heard from a friend that she makes these kits and keeps them in her car to hand out to people panhandling on the street corners. I have a feeling this is really going to gain traction here. Stay tuned!
