Yesterday was the day that the new iPhones were available for purchase or for delivery if one had preordered them a week earlier. As is my annual practice, I upgraded my iPhone 16 Pro to the new iPhone 17 Pro. I happen to be on Apple’s new every year program where they provide you with interest-free financing with the option to trade in your phone every year. As a result, I always have the latest model for a relatively low monthly payment. This year it’s the beautiful iPhone Pro in Cosmic Orange. I paired it with the new “Sienna” TechWoven case, which is really nice.
Not being a geek like me, Christine is satisfied with keeping her phone for years before upgrading. This year I was able to convince her to upgrade her aging iPhone 13 Pro Max to the new iPhone Air. I knew she’d love the light weight and thinness of this phone, and I was right. She’s not a big photographer, so the single camera on the Air was perfectly adequate for her needs. In fact, it’s a great camera and also has the same front-facing selfie camera found on all of this year’s iPhone models.
The cool thing about this new selfie camera is that it automatically switches from a vertical to horizontal orientation depending on how many people are in the photo. You no longer have to turn the phone on its side to get a good group selfie. The two photos here were shot with Christine’s Air to demonstrate.

The first is more of a general overview review from MacRumors, while the second is from a well-known photographer who uses the iPhone Pro for much of his work.
